United States

DST in the US starts on Sunday, March 8, 2026 at 2:00 AM local time, when clocks move forward to 3:00 AM. It ends on Sunday, November 1, 2026 at 2:00 AM, when clocks move back to 1:00 AM. This follows the schedule set by the Energy Policy Act of 2005.

This applies to all states except Hawaii and most of Arizona (the Navajo Nation within Arizona does observe DST). US territories including Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, the US Virgin Islands, and the Northern Mariana Islands do not observe DST. For a complete list, see the DST exceptions page. For background on US DST rules, see current rules by region.

Canada

Most of Canada follows the same schedule as the US: Sunday, March 8, 2026 to Sunday, November 1, 2026.

Exceptions include most of Saskatchewan, Yukon (which moved to permanent DST in 2020), and small areas of British Columbia, Ontario, Quebec, and Nunavut.

Europe

All EU countries switch to summer time on Sunday, March 29, 2026 at 1:00 AM UTC, and return to standard time on Sunday, October 25, 2026 at 1:00 AM UTC.

The change happens at the same absolute moment across Europe, which means local times vary: 2:00 AM becomes 3:00 AM in CET countries, 3:00 AM becomes 4:00 AM in EET countries. The EU proposed ending clock changes in 2018, but the proposal has stalled. For background on why DST is controversial, see the pros and cons page.

Non-EU countries including Norway, Switzerland, and Iceland's neighbors follow the same schedule. Iceland does not observe DST despite its high latitude. For the full list of which European countries participate, see the country-by-country table.

United Kingdom

British Summer Time (BST) begins on Sunday, March 29, 2026 at 1:00 AM GMT and ends on Sunday, October 25, 2026 at 2:00 AM BST. The UK follows the same dates as the EU. See the full country table for all European countries.

Australia

The 2025–2026 DST season ends on Sunday, April 5, 2026 when clocks fall back at 3:00 AM. The 2026–2027 season begins on Sunday, October 4, 2026 when clocks spring forward at 2:00 AM.

States that observe DST: ACT, New South Wales, South Australia, Tasmania, and Victoria. Queensland, the Northern Territory, and Western Australia do not.

Lord Howe Island uses a 30-minute shift instead of one hour.

New Zealand

New Zealand DST ends on Sunday, April 5, 2026 (clocks back at 3:00 AM) and resumes on Sunday, September 27, 2026 (clocks forward at 2:00 AM).

The Chatham Islands, 45 minutes ahead of the main islands, adjust accordingly.

Other Regions

Several countries have recently changed their DST policies:

  • Mexico: Abolished DST for most of the country in 2022. Border municipalities near the US still follow the US schedule.
  • Brazil: Suspended DST since 2019.
  • Russia: Moved to permanent standard time in 2014.
  • Turkey: On permanent summer time (UTC+3) since 2016.

Temporary offset between US and Europe: Between March 8 and March 29, 2026, the US has already moved to DST while Europe has not. During this period, the time difference between New York and London is 4 hours instead of the usual 5.
